I was just wondering if anyone knows of a good site to make a photo enlargement. Also, I was wondering how big I can go with my 8mp unedited jpeg photo.
I've printed from mpix.com and they do a VERY good job, but do save up for a few photos at once since they use a flat shipping rate. They are fast, and the quality of the photos (I've used e-surface and true B&W paper) is very good. I would go to them for all my printing needs, if I printed more often. They are more for the very good photos that you want to keep, not for everyday prints.
In the past, I've also used Snapfish, Winkflash, and Shutterfly and never had a problem with them. The prints are not top-quality, but they do a decent job, especially with colour prints. I have not had good success printing B&W photos from these types of place, since they don't use dedicated B&W paper and the prints will sometimes have a slight colour cast to them.
Alternately, you can also use a local camera shop like Foto Express in downtown SJ. I'm almost positive that K&S makes prints as well. Ritz does it too, and friends have gotten very good prints from them as well. The nice thing about local stores is that you can go talk to someone if you have an issue with a print without having to send it back through the mail.
As for how large you can print an unedited 8MP file... you could probably get away with printing as large as 24x36". How large did you have in mind?
